1989 Nissan 240SX SE Hatch

9-29-22

The 240SX was involved in a slight fender bender in February 2022 and has been parked since. I've collected the parts needed to replace and repair the broken pieces. Thankfully the frame didn't get damaged.

I rebuilt a spare sohc KA24E with custom 9.0:1 compression pistons (I was going for 9.1:1), cylinder head ported and polished by Rebello Racing, King/ACL bearings and OEM parts in Fall 2020. The car was moving under it's own power by November 2020.

SCCA Slush Series Round 1

July 2012:

I didn't get to compete in the July 22 autox because of a cracked windshield.

6-9-12:

I beat a Subaru WRX wagon in DSP, the class I'm competing in. It took 'til the 4th run to get a 46 sec run. Autocross was again held at O.com in Oakland on June 9.

Jan. 2012:

240SX passed smog!

Dec. 2011:

240sx is parked until I can figure out what is causing the check engine light before I get it smogged.

Oct. 2011:

Autocrossed the 240sx for the first time in almost a year. Placed ahead of the other 240sx in the class.

June 2011:

240SX teardown No. 4 begins. Motor out of car (6-16), watched the autox on the sidelines (6-19), engine picked up by shop for warranty work (6-20).

May 2011:

Got motor + trans in car (5/7-8), got car running and engine loses compression (5/26-27).

April 22:

Dropped off engine at rebuild shop. Got it back April 29.

March 25, 2011:

240SX teardown No. 3 has begun. I got the driveshaft and exhaust disconnected. Only thing left would be electrical, engine and tranny mounts and the motor will be ready to be pulled out.

Nov. 2010:

The 240SX is dead. I've been fighting an overheating problem and finally figured out that the car has a bad head gasket. The car is still completely drivable. I'm glad I switched over to synthetic motor oil. I think it helped keep it from completely blowing up the motor.

May 2, 2010:

Finally got to use the RA-1s on the 240SX, and what a difference. Car handled like its on rails with all the grip from the tires.

April 23, 2010:

In celebration of Earth Day, my buddy (in a BMW Z4) and I decided to go on a cruise down Highway 1. We had lunch at Nepenthe in Big Sur, where we watched condors fly overhead. We continued down Highway 1, to Nacimiento Road and ended up at Fort Hunter Liggett. I had fun with a little water crossing. My friend took this pic just before I stalled my car on my 4th crossing. Good thing the current wasn't that strong.

Here's my autox picture trophy.
